A new contractor is to be appointed to deliver interpretation services if a deal is approved.
Translators are needed to make sure people whose first language is not English don't face difficulties trying to access council services.
Glasgow City Council is proposing to hire DA Languages Ltd to carry out the job starting later this month. The contract value is about £1.06 million annually.The deal must be approved by the contracts and property committee next week before it goes ahead. A council report to be published to the committee said: "This contract is to ensure that any barriers to accessing council services, due to English not being the primary language, are removed. Providing person centered services and identifying and addressing health inequalities, with the provision of an effective and efficient interpreting and translation service, to support wider service delivery is key to the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion across the council family.
The supplier is to provide interpretation face-to-face, over the telephone, by video conference and written translation to other spoken languages according to the report. The paper due to go in front of committee said: "The duration of the contract is from 15 September 2023 to 14 September 2025 with an option to extend for a further 3 periods of 12 months."
