Two Glasgow schoolgirls, Caoimhe and Ava, have received a massive amount of praise for bringing back the 'penny for the guy' tradition that has fizzled out over the years.

Caoimhe and Ava were pictured in the Govan area while taking part in a familiar tradition that has slowly fizzled out over the years. Many children across the city used to find some old clothes or pillow cases to stuff and throw in a wheel barrow to ask people for money.

The cash would be used to help fund local celebrations and acted as somewhat early form of crowdfunding. Caoimhe and Ava were pictured sat in a sledge on the pavement wearing a Nike tracksuit. Is this only a Glasgow thing? As folk I've been speaking to have never heard of it.

The nostalgic social media post has racked up 160 reactions and 45 comments. Facebook users flocked to the picture to share their own memories of the tradition. One wrote: "Loved those days, standing outside the bingo shouting penny for the guy.Another added: "Not seen it in years. Outside the underground was a favourite place for it."
