A football academy has launched a training course to help young people get experience and find work.

The Brunswick Football Academy in Glasgow is running an employability course for teenagers – offering referee training, coaching and other skills.

The academy is part of Brunswick Community Development Trust, which recently took over the running of the pitch at Springburn Park after being selected by theBrunswick CEO, Greg Lennon, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people with a passion for the game. We understand that not every young talent will ascend to top-tier football, and it’s paramount for us to present alternative avenues.

A statement from the trust said the programme is aimed at cultivating young people’s “passion for the game and offering practical routes to employment within theThe statement added: “Over 10 weeks, participants will undergo a comprehensive training regime that not only puts them through their referee certification but also allows them to acquire football coaching badges and volunteering experience.

The programme will run alongside the academy’s main Grass Routes Project, which sees children in P2 to P7 offered free football coaching Monday to Friday.
