Lancashire's 'ghost town' new estate that'll remain unfinished for years to come
A troubled and controversial housing development in West Lancashire is not expected to be complete until 2024 with work still halted.
LancsLive visited the site this week and was greeted with the eerie surroundings where buildings are half finished, with unfinished roofs and missing windows a common feature. Meanwhile, residents remain frustrated at the ‘ghost town’ left behind.The development is to eventually have 52 homes made available through shared ownership and affordable rent following a dragged out and contested planning process amid strong opposition from residents.
Nearby residents have previously spoken of the unhappiness with the development. In August, one woman who has lived in Burscough for 22 years told the Liverpool Echo: "We didn't want it in the first place and now the building has stopped. There has been so much development in the village that it is not a village anymore.
Another added: "I was not happy about it in the first place, to be honest Burscough has always been a lovely village but if these buildings are complete it will change the atmosphere of the village completely.
