The WHO has issued a global alert over four cough syrups made in India after the rise in child deaths in The Gambia
THE NUMBER of child deaths from kidney injury linked to contaminated cough syrup has risen to 69, Gambia’s health minister Ahmadou Lamin Samateh said over the weekend.
Gambia’s government has suspended the use of all paracetamol syrups and is urging people to replace the syrups with tablets. The WHO identified the medicines as Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup.
