The signs are calling on the Housing Executive and Private Landlords to 'stop housing illegal immigrants'
The signs have appeared in the Rathcoole area of North Belfast and are calling for "immigrants" not to be housed in the area and that it should be for "locals only", and that "action" would be taken against anyone attempting to remove them.
“I am absolutely disgusted to see these posters erected in Rathcoole, especially following similar incidents elsewhere in Northern Ireland recently,” said North Belfast MLA Ms McAllister. “I have contacted the local PSNI team to ensure these posters are removed immediately. North Belfast and Newtownabbey are open and welcoming places and we don’t want to see racism or xenophobia here. Nobody should attempt to exert control on any neighbourhood and I utterly condemn those who think they can do just that.”
"This is being treated as a hate incident and engagement is ongoing with community representatives in the area in relation to the matter."
