It follows a second complaint about Cllr Fairclough's property declarations
An assessment into the failure of Sefton Council’s deputy leader to declare a property he owns has concluded the matter should be referred for “further action.”
Mr Rice, who stood unsuccessfully against Cllr Fairclough in recent elections, alleged that the deputy leader had failed to declare 12 Cookson Road in his register of interests, a property he purchased in 2017 with a family member. The first complaint, submitted in May, related to a number of properties owned by Fairclough Properties Ltd, of which Cllr Fairclough is majority shareholder and director according to Companies House Records.
After that complaint was submitted, Cllr Fairclough updated his register of interests to include the properties, with the monitoring officer Mr McCullough stating in an email to Mr Rice seen by the ECHO that he had been advised by Cllr Fairclough that he did not receive any financial gain from Fairclough Properties Ltd.
After Mr Rice stated he was unhappy with the outcome, the matter was referred to a meeting of the audit and governance subcommittee, which met in a close-doors meeting in June. In a response provided by Cllr Fairclough he spoke of his “regret” at failing to declare the properties owned by Fairclough Properties Ltd.
