The extreme weather failed to dampen spirits at the Cheshire festival
A large funnel cloud was spotted whipping over the Creamfields campsite as the festival was battered by rain. Crowds at the Cheshire festival ran for cover when heavy downpours started on Saturday afternoon.
Despite only lasting a few minutes people at the electronic dance music festival were quick to post about the weather on social media. A short time later, more pictures and video emerged on X of a funnel cloud passing over the Daresbury site.Many people shared their surprise at the extreme weather phenomenon, while may wrongly identified it as a "tornado". One video shows the cone shaped cloud passing over a large event tent with the caption: "Spotted this over Creamfields...
Others joked about the cloud as one person said: "This wasn't on my Creamfields bingo card." Another tweeted: "Now we can add a funnel cloud to the list of Creamfields weather events."According to the Met Office, the difference between a funnel cloud and a tornado is that a funnel cloud does not reach the earth's surface, at the point it reaches land it becomes a tornado, or if it reaches a body of water it becomes a waterspout.
Thankfully, weather forecasters don't believe those at Creamfields will experience much more rain for the rest of the weekend. Scattered showers should be expected for Sunday afternoon. It comes after heavy rain and thunder and lightning was felt at the festival on Friday evening, It didn't dampen spirits though with people partying well into the early hours of the morning.
