A report accused Nottingham City Council of 'institutional blindness' for propping up the failed energy firm.
One of Robin Hood Energy's original directors has described the project as a 'car crash' and said that Nottingham City Council didn't act 'fast enough' when problems emerged. Graham Chapman, who still serves as the Labour representative for Aspley on Nottingham City Council, was one of the first councillor-directors of Robin Hood Energy when it was founded in 2015.
Although giving evidence in his capacity as Vice-Chair of the Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities , Councillor Chapman was specifically asked about Robin Hood Energy at one point during the hearing. Conservative MP Ben Everitt asked: "What lessons would you draw reflecting now on what happened with Robin Hood Energy and the use of flexibilities by Nottingham City Council?"
"You need very, very deep pockets if it starts going wrong in order to subsidise it and the pockets weren't deep enough, nor should they have been. That was one of the major problems and I don't think the council got on to it fast enough."
