It's now open for coffee, while work goes on behind the scenes
Work is under way to transform a canalside building in Nottingham into a coffee shop and a downstairs restaurant overlooking the water. The property, in Carrington Street, was a cob shop called the Picnic Basket for 25 years but it never reopened after pandemic lockdown restrictions were lifted.
The front of the shop is operating six days a week, for now just selling coffee - for £1 up until Saturday. Eventually, the temporary wall at the back will come down once renovations are complete, to reveal a seating area for drinks and pastries that will be baked on the premises. The West Bridgford coffee shop, in Gordon Road, launched a bakery during the pandemic. Josh said: "We were very busy during Covid, it's so residential. We started baking a lot of stuff.
"We are as independent as you get. When we fully open there will be a few different coffees to choose from. We try to highlight different origins," he said.
