An updated travel warning has been published by the UK government
The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Italy and the Vatican City over concerns surrounding political demonstrations.
The Italian authorities have increased their security around "some Jewish community sites", the government department said. British travellers are being advised to "stay away" from demonstrations and "stay aware" of their surroundings. The Foreign Office website states: "Italian authorities have increased security around some Jewish community sites due to events in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Stay aware of your surroundings, stay away from demonstrations and follow the advice of local authorities."Read more: Met Office issues Storm Babet warning ahead of Man City and Manchester United fixtures
It comes days after hundreds of people reportedly gathered in the centre of Rome to protest against Israeli attacks on Palestinian territories. It is understood that around a thousand people were gathered, with some waving Palestinian flags and chanting. The Foreign Office also highlights that "no travel can be guaranteed safe" and urges anyone travelling to stay up to date on the latest advice. The warning was issued just days ahead of the October half term which will likely see an increase of holidaymakers travelling to foreign countries such as Italy.
