The Sixers have made the second round of the playoffs in five of the past six years … and have lost all five times. Yet again, they didn’t get it done. And this might have been their best chance at an NBA title, rich_hofmann writes.
“It doesn’t matter when you lose, you don’t get a trophy for being second or third or fourth or fifth or sixth,” Embiid said. “It doesn’t matter if you lose in the first round Finals, there’s only one team that wins. And if you didn’t accomplish that, are you going to be happy for being second?
The Celtics are the betting title favorites moving forward. They had the best regular-season net rating in the league. They had the best regular-season record of the final four, which means Boston has home-court advantage through the NBA Finals. And yet, those things would have been true for the Sixers had they advanced.
Those things are true. The Sixers did give the Celtics more of a scare than anybody thought entering the series, myself included. But at this point of “The Process”, after all the painful exits, coming closer than expected offers no consolation. Yet again, the Sixers didn’t get it done.
