Football pioneer Rose criticised the Spanish football chief when he kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips during World Cup celebrations last month.
Legendary Scotland footballer Rose Reilly wants male-dominated attitudes around women’s football to change as the row over Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales’ kiss rumbles on.
Rose, who won the unofficial World Cup with Italy in 1984, said there now has to be a shift in the culture around women’s football. “By kissing her and the way he did it, he had her in a lock, she couldn’t move. It looked to me like he was asserting his dominance and in his professional position it’s like a sign to say ‘you girls belong to me’.“Would it be appropriate to kiss a female lawyer or doctor on the lips like that? Women on that level who are that talented and dedicated are still being treated like this and it needs to stop.
Rubiales, whose own mum has gone on hunger strike to defend him, was earlier seen gyrating in the stands.
