Fish and chip shop owner works in the dark and cuts staff after energy bills shoot up to £1,400
‘Turning the lights off has been effective and allowed me to save between £150 to £200. I used to have a couple of young girls working for me but I can’t afford them now’October 21, 2022 1:24 pm A fish and chip shop owner has been forced to work in the dark and dismiss her staff after her energy bills increased tenfold to nearly £1,400 a month.that she used to pay £66 a month for gas but this had increased to £398, while her electricity bill has shot up from £120 to more than £1,000.“because people don’t have any confidence in the Government anymore and people don’t want to spend their money”, she said.
In an attempt to make savings where she can, Ms Anemoni has resorted to turning lights off in the back room of the shop and in the store cupboards. She has also cut back on staff so it is mostly only herself running the shop seven days a week.“I used to have a couple of young girls working for me but I can’t afford them now. Now I just have one person who comes in twice a week for four hours at a time.
“Obviously, when she is working, I keep the lights on for her but it is fine when it is just me in the shop because I can find my way around.”
