Olive School would have space for around 420 pupils
Education bosses have revealed plans to build a new primary school in north Manchester. Olive School in Cheetham Hill would have space for around 420 pupils.
It's being earmarked to be built on Bignor Park off Heywood Street. Developers say it will 'serve a local catchment, and as a high quality, purpose built school it will address an identified need within the community'.Under the plans, designed by Bowker Sadler Architecture, the two form-entry, two-storey school, car park, and multi-use games area would be built on the northern half of the three-acre site.
Under Manchester council's planning rules any development which results in the loss of sports pitches can only go ahead if improved facilities are built nearby. The proposal's backers, the Department for Education, Star Academies and Conlon Construction, plan to pay the council to improve sports facilities at Smedley Lane and Cheetham Park. A planning application is due to be submitted next year.
A public consultation into the plans is open until December 19. Responses can be sent to [email protected].
