Firestarter who killed four siblings in Freckleton house blaze could be released next month
A fire-obsessed killer who caused the death of four siblings in a house fire in Freckleton could be released as soon as next month.
Reece pushed past Allen to try to get to the children, but he was overcome by smoke and collapsed on the stairs. Allen and another teenager also joined Reece in the rescue attempt but were unable to reach the crying children. Handing down a life sentence, with a minimum term of nine years and three months, Mr Justice Males said: "Why did you do it? In one sense, what prompted you to do this terrible thing, not only starting a fire in a room where defenceless young children were asleep but waiting for several minutes before raising the alarm, is a mystery.
"You have a history of playing with fire going back for several years ‐‐ lighting bonfires using petrol and aerosol cans to add to the excitement and danger; making Molotov cocktails; and using your cigarette lighter with an aerosol can to make a kind of flame thrower. You might have been expected to grow out of such habits, as it seems that some of your former friends have done, but you have not done so.
