The wider aim of the annual week-long initiative is to eradicate gender inequality

Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson has encouraged women and girls living in the constituency to get active and get involved in local sports.

The Scottish Government teamed up with Scottish Women in Sport and Active Scotland for the initiative to highlight the importance of sport in achieving gender equality, as well as improving health and wellbeing, and to celebrate the achievements of women and girls in all sports across all levels.Get all the news from your area – as well as features, entertainment, sport and the latest on Lanarkshire’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic – straight to your fingertips, 24/7.

Ms Adamson said: “The seventh annual Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week is an opportunity to encourage women and girls to get active, to celebrate the achievements of amazing women in sport, and to overcome systemic barriers to participation. “Despite the enormous contribution of women and girls at all sporting levels, there remains rife inequality and a huge disparity between male and female participation.
