Nearly three times more care plans for SEND children were discontinued in 2022 than the previous year, official figures show

A further 842 young people between the ages of 16 to 18 had their care plans cancelled – bringing the total number of discontinued EHCPs in 2022 to 859. Experts are concerned that cash-strapped councils such as Birmingham will further slash the number of EHCPs they approve, or discontinue existing ones, in a bid to save money.: “The EHC plan commits funding to that young person directly from the local authority. That funding can vary quite significantly.
