Residents' fears as wave of violent crime sweeps the Fylde Coast town
On October 2, a man collapsed in the doorway of McDonalds in Bank Hey Street, Blackpool. It was 4.30pm on a Monday afternoon and Daniel Allsop, 38, had suffered a head injury in an attack on Bethesda Road, a short time earlier.
On September 21, Alison Dodds, 51, was found dead in a flat in Redcar Road. She had suffered multiple injuries. A 35-year-old man from Blackpool awaits trial for Alison's murder. Lee Grimes, 47, moved to Blackpool in his 20s for the gay scene. He said: "The town centre is particularly difficult. We often take a long route round the promenade rather than cutting through the streets from one bar to another. If you go up towards Fleetwood or down towards St Anne's it's better but the centre can get quite rough.
"A lot of people come to Blackpool on holiday and leave their inhibitions behind. What happens in Blackpool stays in Blackpool. There are certainly areas we don't go to, like Central Drive. There have been quite a lot of stabbings and things.
