A family butchers has received a one-star food hygiene rating during its latest inspection
A butchers has been criticised by inspectors after receiving a one-star food hygiene rating, with its owners quick to say 'substantial progress' has been made since the visit took place.
One of these findings was one of the food handlers in the business, who was "observed handling raw mince with no additional protective clothing worn." Whilst handling the food, they were only wearing a black apron whille serving customers on the 'cooked and ready to eat' section of the premises. Furthermore, at the time of the inspection, no soap or paper towels were provided in the wash-hand basin outside the butchery section, as well as there being only hand gel provided in the toilet. No hot water in the toilet's wash basin was running and according to owners, this supply was turned off due to a fire risk, but other members of staff were not aware.
The report states that the following areas were "dirty and require a thorough deep clean." These include but are not limited to - the floor underneath the workbenches, lower areas particularly in the toilet and lobby as a significant number of cobwebs were found, toilet door and handle, the back door, the records folders, chest freezer door seal and the ceiling fan in rear cooking areas.
