If the sprint race is any indication, fans may be in for an exciting São Paulo Grand Prix. On Saturday, Max Verstappen beat out pole-sitter Lando Norris at the start, and the two ended up in a race of their own, with the Dutchman four seconds ahead, and Sergio Pérez nine seconds behind Norris.

Advertisement The Mercedes looked rapid early in the sprint as both Russell and Hamilton made up places, only to then struggle with tire wear towards the end. A repeat of the one-two from 12 months ago is surely out of the question. So long as it can get on top of the tire struggles from Saturday, it could make for a close battle with Ferrari. You have to imagine both lack the pace to fight McLaren, so quick was Norris on Saturday.
