ByTeam Europe captain Luke Donald named Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, Shane Lowry, Nicolai Højgaard and Ludvig Aberg to the Ryder Cup squad with his final six wild-card selections Monday. Here’s what you need to know:
Rose returns for his sixth Ryder Cup appearance, while Straka, Højgaard and Aberg will make their tournament debuts. Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, Robert MacIntyre, Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton automatically qualified for the Ryder Cup. Europe will face the U.S. in the 2023 Ryder Cup beginning Sept. 29 at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome.Donald and Europe are officially transitioning to a new era. Gone are the veterans like Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia, and coming in is a new wave including two streaking youngsters in Aberg and Højgaard.
