From iconic base to asylum housing? RAF Scampton locals say 'No!' 🚫
“Give Scampton and its people the respect we deserve” – that’s the message from protestors outside the retired RAF base.

Photo: Ellis Karran for The Lincolnite“Lincolnshire Police have just been given around £2 million by the government for this – if we have nothing to be worried about then why do we need all this additional police funding all of a sudden?”
“It feels to me like they’ve picked one of the most iconic bases as some form of political message, because there are plenty of other disused RAF bases that don’t have £300 million of investment ready to be injected into them.
“I sat here this morning and was moved almost to tears by the outpouring of support you get from people passing by, it really opened my eyes to the community spirit.”Samantha said: “They have to go somewhere, but this is not the right place. They are being shipped to the middle of nowhere, and in the winter conditions will be so cold for them.
“These poor people will be thrown into the centre, bored with nowhere to go, and probably scared of this new place. There’s no school or work training opportunities for them – it is truly a no win situation,” she said. “It really helps my mental health being here – the support we get from passers by drives us on and reminds me that we are all in it together.”“Come and talk to us. Meet the community and see the damage you are causing. Explain to us why this investment is being thrown away,” she said.
