There are fears that the law, named the Inflation Reduction Act, could induce European companies to relocate to the US and spark a trade war, undermining transatlantic solidarity over Ukraine.
The White House argues that the green subsidies are a massive effort by the world’s biggest emitter to address its carbon footprint while helping the global transition to a clean energy economy. And while the EU also offers green subsidies, they are available to any businesses operating in the bloc, like American car manufacturer Tesla.
