The SNP's hopes of securing a majority in the Scottish elections are on a knife edge this morning, but Nicola Sturgeon's party remains on course for an historic fourth term in office.
Nevertheless, party members have suggested the party will likely get a majority that will allow them to push forward for independence. He told BBC Breakfast:"It's very clear that the Scottish National Party is going to be the largest party at the Scottish Parliament by a very significant margin. Asked whether the SNP will continue arguing they have a mandate for a second independence referendum if they win more than 65 seats, he said it will come down to the make-up of the Scottish Parliament and whether there is a majority of candidates who have been elected on a programme to deliver a referendum on independence – but that he was"confident" this would be the case.
As the country moved out of the pandemic, he said there was an opportunity for Sir Keir"to set out his real passion to change our country, to make sure we don't go back to the failed, unequal, insecure model of the past".
