The seat is vacant after the sitting councillor passed away in July
An election is being held in Long Eaton after a long-serving councillor died. The Long Eaton by-election will be held on Thursday, October 27, to fill the seat vacated by Conservative Cllr Alan Griffiths, who passed away aged 71 in July.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service approached each of the four Long Eaton by-election candidates for a brief pitch on why residents should vote for them. Here is what they had to say, in the order in which candidates appear on the ballot paper:Rachel Allen, a piano teacher and Sawley parish councillor, living in Long Eaton, did not respond.
“As a former care worker, I will fight for our care homes and staff. I will work hard to ensure our pavements are accessible to everyone. The Conservatives have let Long Eaton down. Send them a message by voting for a fresh start.”Ashley Dunn, a 34-year-old engineer living in Borrowash, said: “I have lived in the area for eight years with my family. It’s a great place to live.
