Ruth and Peter Jaffe were forced to pay the fee, despite the fact they thought they had downloaded their tickets before the flight

An elderly couple were left “horrified” and “upset” after they were charged £110 by Ryanair to print their boarding passes at the airport. Ruth, 79, and Peter Jaffe, 80, were flying from Stansted Airport to Bergerac, France, on Friday when they discovered that they had downloaded the inbound ticket on their phone instead of the outbound one.

She said: “We arrived two hours before the flight and I then found out I had not got the outward boarding card and only got the return one. I was then told we would have to go to the Ryanair desk to get a boarding card, and there they charged me £55 per person. It horrified me.” She said: “Hey @Ryanair, my parents who are in their 70s and 80s, had accidentally downloaded the return flight boarding card instead of the outgoing ones and you charged them £110 to print them at the airport. £110 for 2 pieces of paper which took 1 minute. Shame on you.”

Discussing the isolation older people can feel in society when it comes to using modern technology, Mrs Jaffe went on to say: “If you’re elderly and you haven’t been brought up on using computers from day one, it can be very difficult.”
