A six-year-old koala at Edinburgh Zoo, who became popular during the Covid-19 lockdowns, has been put to sleep, and many visitors were quick to share their memories of the 'beautiful' animal.
Edinburgh Zoo has announced the death of one of its koalas, who became a "huge hit" during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The koala was also an important member of the species' European breeding programme, fathering three joeys. His daughters, Inala and Myaree, are still at Edinburgh Zoo, while his son Dameeli left for the Pairi Daiza zoo in Belgium last year. Since being posted, the message has received more than 1,500 likes and almost 240 comments, with many Facebook users sharing their thoughts on the news.
