The Coalisland native was the first player to captain a Tyrone team to All-Ireland glory - winning minor titles in 1947 and '48
Tributes have been paid to Eddie Devlin, the first man to captain Tyrone to an All-Ireland title, who has passed away, aged 92.
He also enjoyed great success at colleges’ level, winning three MacRory Cup titles with St Pat’s Armagh as well as a Hogan Cup in 1946. He was also a Sigerson Cup winner with UCD and made his senior debut for Tyrone aged just 16 - the same time he won a first county title with Coalisland.He would go on to make 68 appearances for Tyrone and also featured for Ulster in the Railway Cup.
However, Tyrone wouldn’t make their first appearance in an All-Ireland SFC final until 1986 after losing out to Louth in the ’57 semi-final.“The members of Coalisland Fianna deeply regret the passing of our former player Eddie Devlin, whose name will forever be etched in the history of Tyrone GAA,” the statement read.
