EastEnders actress Jane Whittenshaw has sadly passed away, her agent confirmed on Friday, bringing to an end a prolific career which included roles in The Bill, Grange Hill, and Call the Midwife
The much-loved actress, who was best known for playing social worker Anita Banks in the BBC soap, sadly passed away last Saturday, with her loved ones at her side.
"As well as an esteemed client, Jane was a dear friend, who was generous to a fault and great fun to be around. Often regarded as a staple of the small screen, Jane first embarked on a TV career all the way back in 1986, when she took on a role in the TV movie What a Way to Run a Revolution. One of her most notable roles however was as Anita Banks in EastEnders, a social worker that Mark and Ruth Fowler visited to apply to adopt a child all the way back in 1997.
Following the news of her death, fans couldn’t hide their heartbreak as they took to social media to pay their respects.
