More than 700,000 parents claiming Universal Credit will see changes before the end of this year.
An online petition is calling on the UK Government to reverse an upcoming Universal Credit rule change that will affect parents of young children this year. The Department for Work and Pensions introduced changes to the frequency of appointments with work coaches for parents of children aged one and two-years-old in July and is set to implement further changes in the Autumn for those with children up to the age of 12.
The changes are not limited to parents and apply to all Universal Credit claimants who have the main caring responsibilities for children. This could be a parent, grandparent, kinship carer, adoptive parent, or other guardian, dependent on their individual family circumstances.Where there is a lone parent, they will always be listed as the lead carer and for couples on Universal Credit, individuals can identify who is the lead carer.
