The Treasury was reportedly looking to change PIP rules to reduce the annual welfare bill.

The Department for Work and Pensions has made it clear there will be no changes to the existing eligibility criteria for Personal Independence Payment , following reports that the Treasury may have been considering making it a means-tested benefit in order ro reduce annual welfare costs.

However, the DWP Minister responded: “The shadow Minister , touched on means-testing for the Personal Independence Payment, or changes to eligibility for PIP. I can confirm that there are no plans for that. I want to be very clear about that.” Earlier this year, the UK Government published the Health and Disability White Paper, which lays out proposed reforms to the benefits system. As part of its shake-up, the DWP announced plans to end the Work Capability Assessments to encourage people who need to claim benefits back into work.
