'I think we need to focus on giving the spotlight to more POC and Black voices', said ShadyLawrence
, Lawrence addressed the backlash over series three’s lack of diversity, stressing that ‘we need more visibly Black people on television’.
‘So there is diversity, but the problem is I think what we need – and especially speaking to some of my Black friends and some of my POC friends – is we need more visibly Black people on television,’ she said.‘Like I said, how can more inclusion ever be a bad thing? So I think that’s the main thing to ring through.’
Lawrence recalled what it was like for her when she was younger, when she saw someone on TV who was plus-size who she could relate to and make her feel ‘less like an outsider’.
