On 1 December, US President Joe Biden and Dr Jill Biden hosted their first state dinner since moving into the White House in 2021, with French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron as guests of honour.
Among the several hundred others in attendance: singer Jon Batiste, who performed, musician John Legend and cookbook author Chrissy Teigen, and actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The dinner is red, white, and blue themed – a nod to both countries’ flags, and, according to Biden, “our common values: liberty and democracy, equality and fellowship”.
