The Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds have been taken in by two NI animal charities and their volunteers
Dozens of vulnerable puppies have been removed from the Christmas trade during a sting between a council animal welfare team, DAERA investigators and harbour police.
Northern Ireland’s Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs said discrepancies in the paperwork evidence provided by the transporter alerted its staff, working in partnership with Belfast Harbour Police and Belfast City Council. “Innocent animal lovers are often duped into believing these pups have come from a reputable breeder. Quite often, pups that are being trafficked come from illegal breeding establishments known as ‘puppy farms’ where they are bred in horrendous conditions.
