Alison McGarr's seven-year-old Chihuahua, Alfie, has been left fighting for his life after the smash in Cumbernauld.
A beloved dog has been left fighting for its life after a horror crash on a busy Lanarkshire road. Alison McGarr had been driving with her pets, Alfie and Hooper, when she claims another vehicle smashed into the side of her car on Spruce Road in Cumbernauld at 8.30am on August 16.
Alison told Glasgow Live: "Passersby rushed my dogs to the nearest vets. Hooper, my Yorkshire Terrier, got home that day but Alfie, they kept him in. I was told he suffered brain damage. The 52-year-old is still feeling the effects of the crash but she has her full focus on the battling pup. The worried pet owner said: "I've just been on autopilot since it happened. I went to the hospital but there wasn't really anything. I've not been able to focus on how I feel because I'm just trying to concentrate on Alfie."
Not long after Alfie was adopted in 2019, the family noticed something wasn't quite right. Vets thought he was brain damaged and recommended that he be put down, but Alfie proved them all wrong.
