A 26-year-old man died at the construction site yesterday
A horrendous social media post mocking the death of a construction worker at Everton's new stadium has been condemned by a Mayor.
Since the death was confirmed by police, a post on X has been condemned after it appears to mock the death. Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram hit back at the post and said that there "is nothing to sing about, nothing to celebrate and absolutely nothing funny" about the incident.The vile post ends by saying they are laughing at Everton Football Club.
The Liverpool Echo understands incident involved "heavy machinery" and Merseyside Police confirmed the man's next of kin has been informed. Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive , which investigates accidents in the workplace, are on the scene and conducting enquiries. Scientific support vehicles from Merseyside Police were seen at the entrance to the site.
"The thoughts and condolences of everyone connected with Everton are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this unimaginably sad time. Stadium Contractor Laing O’Rourke will cooperate with Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive in their investigations."
