Scientists have warned that diet drinks and sweets could be increasing people's risk of type 2 diabetes.
And now a new study has found that people who consumed artificial sweeteners - often found in products such as Diet Coke - were more at risk for type 2 diabetes compared to those who didn't. Top Health Stories Today In the study, researchers wrote: "The findings strengthen evidence that these additives may not be safe sugar alternatives. [It also] provides important insights in the context of ongoing worldwide reevaluation of artificial sweeteners by health authorities."
Those who ate and drank products that contained aspartame specifically had a 63 per cent higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes.
