Cumbria Constabulary has informed the Independent Office for Police Conduct about the incident 'in accordance with IOPC guidelines'
Cumbria Police said they were called to Wetheral railway bridge following a 'concern for welfare' report. Officers found a man in his 40s from the Carlisle area 'on the wrong side of the railings' on the bridge shortly after 8pm last night .
Cumbria Constabulary said it has also informed the Independent Office for Police Conduct about the incident 'in accordance with IOPC guidelines'. The name of the missing man has not been released. "Officers attended and the man – in his 40s and from the Carlisle area - was found on the bridge, on the wrong side of the railings. Despite the efforts of emergency services at the scene, the man has fallen from the bridge, shortly after 9pm.
