Plans are progressing for new flats to be built in the area
Demolition signs have been installed around a popular former West Bridgford pub as work on building new flats continues. Owners of The Black Pearl, on the corner of Bridgford Road and Stratford Road in West Bridgford, announced its closure at the start of this year.
Plans were first revealed in 2022 for the building housing The Black Pearl to be extended and altered as part of plans for seven flats. The building was also once home to businesses including Castle Beauty, with both the beauty clinic and pub set to remain operational whilst the flats were built. But Castle Beauty has since closed, with its part of the building having now been demolished. The Black Pearl is currently still standing, but its owners said in January that they were closing the site amid "major structural work" which they said was looking "rather bleak."Black Pearl owners Dan Brown and Drew Hewitt said in a statement at the time: "We've enjoyed every minute of being here although there is hope we can return once the building works are completed.
The Black Pearl became known for its quirky design, signature cocktails and pizzas when it opened just before coronavirus restrictions were enforced in February 2020. It was also known for the 10ft alligator which once sat on the roof. It is not clear when building work will finish, with the original plans having been withdrawn last year for changes to be made. Other nearby pubs include the Castle Rock venue Stratford Haven.
