Around 100 firefighters tackled the blaze at one stage.
People near a derelict Mansfield warehouse destroyed in a huge fire say they are glad that work on demolishing it has finally started seven months on from the incident. Around 100 firefighters were at the scene at one stage to tackle the blaze, which began at around 3.45pm on March 18.
Work to demolish their former Forest Road home was initially due to begin in June but problems including health and safety concerns mean the work has been severely delayed. But seven months on from the fire, initial work finally began on Monday .
Some of those living near the site say they are relieved that work has finally begun. Harrison Beazer, 22, said: "They put a leaflet through doors saying that it was starting this week. It's a bit of a mess so I think everyone's glad that they're going to start doing something about it." The work is reportedly due to take up to 10 weeks to complete. But Conservative Councillor Andre Camilleri said: "Let's hope they can get the job done in less than the 10 weeks and with as little disruption to the lives of residents as possible."
