Sir Bobby Charlton has been dubbed 'England's greatest ever player' as tributes pour in for the footballing legend following his death
Tributes have poured in from all over the world after the passing of England legend Sir Bobby Charlton.
David Beckham, who came through the ranks at Manchester United having attended Bobby Charlton’s Soccer School and was given the middle name Robert as his father was such a fan of the 1968 European Cup winner, was lead the tributes. "A lot of the history was living and breathing through him and he was a constant at the club while I was there - travelling with us all over the world. Win, lose or draw he would be in the changing room wishing us well.
Charlton enjoyed success at United a decade after the Munich air disaster which he and team manager Sir Matt Busby survived, but the incident claimed the lives of eight of Charlton's teammates. "The thoughts of everyone at the football club are with Sir Bobby's friends, family, and loved ones at this difficult time. The 1966 England World Cup winner – considered one of the true England greats – became manager at Deepdale in 1973, and later brought former Three Lions teammate Nobby Stiles with him as player-coach.
"Rest in peace, Sir Bobby." Manchester United said: "Manchester United are in mourning following the passing of Sir Bobby Charlton, one of the greatest and most beloved players in the history of our club.
