Visitor smuggled cannabis into jail down his trousers and tried to pass illicit package to inmate
Mark Allen visited visited HMP Risley in Warrington with drugs stashed down his trousers. He then claimed that he had only attempted to smuggle the cannabis into the jail "to be a good mate" to prisoner Damon Barnes.
The defendant has a total of 14 previous convictions for 22 offences, including an "alarming record" in the United States of America which saw him deported from the country. He represented himself in court, and told the judge: "Your honour, my past is when I was a lad. Allen, a forklift truck driver for logistics company Freightliner, admitted conveying a prohibited article into a prison. Appearing in the dock wearing a light purple shirt and a tie, he was jailed for eight months.
