James Duggan murdered 'sweet and innocent' Rebecca Ryle, 19, in 2004
The dad of a teenager who was strangled to death and left half-naked in a field has slammed a decision that means her 'animal' killer is walking free.
He was freed in March 2022 and then deported. Francis said he and his family opposed Duggan's appeals for parole "every step of the way". "On his Facebook page he had said that he'd never done it. He said he'd served time for a crime he'd never committed. He had no acceptance of the gravity of his actions."
Referring to Duggan's previous conviction, when he breached his sexual risk order, Francis said: "Our response was that was one lucky girl that's had a wakeup call because she didn't realise the character she was involved with. It was very disturbing. So with keeping him in jail, it wasn't so much about revenge.
"I said at the court, after the trial, I said outside to the press when he was sentenced, I said that I think he's an animal and that I think he should never be released. And I stand by that, I really do, and you can quote me on that."
