EncroChat user trafficked huge quantities of heroin, cocaine and cannabis in return for 'very substantial profits'
Philip Taylor trafficked huge quantities of heroin, cocaine and cannabis over encrypted communications platform EncroChat as he sought to net himself "very substantial profits". He was also found to have handled more than £1million of dirty cash after being rumbled by meticulous records which he had kept of his illicit dealings.
Liverpool Crown Court heard today, Friday, that the 36-year-old was identified as the user of the handle "FrostyBear" and had worked closely with an "accomplice" by the name of "RedLetter" as he "sourced and supplied multi-kilo quantities" of class A and B drugs.
Damian Nolan, defending, told the court: "I am not instructed to provide a narrative which seeks time provide some context which the court should have some small amount of sympathy for. He accepts the decisions he made were foolish."He has begun the process of rehabilitation. Those know him well speak of a more positive side to his character - he has been a good father and he would like to return to that as soon as possible.
Sentencing, Judge Robert Trevor Jones said that the "outstanding father and fantastic partner" had "directed and organised the buying and selling of controlled drugs on a commercial scale". Taylor was also said to have had "substantial links and influence on others in the chain" and an "expectation of substantial financial advantage".
The judge added: "You were also trusted by your suppliers to store cash and also supply drugs onwards and collect money from their debtors. It was clearly professional, successful and well executed activity which generated very substantial profit."
