Dad thirteen times the drug-driving limit killed his son, 8, after BMW aquaplaned on M60
A dad killed his eight-year-old son after his BMW aquaplaned on the M60 while he was 13 times the drug-driving limit.
Prosecutor Robin Kitching told the court that Clarke had picked Blake and his six-year-old brother up from their grandparents' home in Middleton at about 1.40pm on the day of the tragedy. "It's clear that loss of control was caused by Mr Clarke aquaplaning on standing water across the carriageway," Mr Kitching told the court.
Despite the best efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead that same afternoon. Blake's brother was also taken to hospital along with a highways worker, who was in the lorry at the time of the crash. "For me, my life is over," she said. "I live in a continuous nightmare that I'm yet to wake from. This nightmare will continue for the rest of my life.""I have gone from a working mother with two boys to someone who can't even complete simple tasks," she told the court.
He added: "This is not the sort of sorry that comes from self-pity or fear of the consequences. He is sorry that what he did means his son is no longer here with his family. Nobody will ever blame him like he blames himself."Sentencing Clarke, Judge Mark Savill described Blake's death as "tragic and unnecessary".
