People could have accepted the silver and gold coins as souvenirs, West Mercia Police says.

People in a Herefordshire village have been asked to return any historic coins they may have from a treasure hoard. The coins cover the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I, James I and Charles I, dating from about 1558 to 1649.

People could have accepted the coins as souvenirs or mementos when they were given away in "good faith", West Mercia Police said.Historic England said the treasure has "local and national historic importance" and would improve knowledge around the English Civil War in Herefordshire."We simply want to get them back in to the right hands," he added.
