Landlords haven't signed up to a voluntary scheme - now council implementing new rules to stop them exploiting tenants 🏘️
North Lincolnshire Council is to crack down on rogue landlords with a selective licensing scheme.
It will mean following strict property standards too – failure to hold the licence will leave landlords liable to hefty fines. North Lincolnshire Council has previously gone through the required legal process to introduce selective licensing. Cllr Yeadon raised that there were around 280 suspected Houses in Multiple Occupation in Town and Crosby and Park Wards in Scunthorpe, of which only 16 had the HMO licence. Council leader Cllr Rob Waltham replied that not all HMOs had to be licensed, due to the residential limits in law.
He said landlords had not taken up a voluntary sign-up scheme as an alternative to introducing selective licensing. “They’ve not picked up the baton and done so.”
