An absolutely sickening assault
John McKay and another man approached the 78-year-old, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, on Stoneyhurst Road in Blackburn on January 18. The vulnerable pensioner had been told he should have at least two outdoor exercise sessions to help with his condition.
In what was described as a 'cowardly' attack, McKay kicked and punched him, that causing him to fall to the ground. He then made off with his mobile phone and some cash.McKay, 47, of Shadsworth Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty at Burnley Crown Court to an offence of robbery. He has now been sentenced to three years in prison.
Detective Constable Adele Hassall, of Blackburn CID, said: “This was a cowardly attack on a vulnerable member of the community. “People are entitled to walk the streets safely and we welcome the prison sentence imposed on McKay.”
