Most coronavirus-related deaths among younger people also happened to those who had not received their first dose. Everyone aged 16 and over in the UK is able to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and a booster programme is also expected to be unveiled at some point this month.
More than 90% of over-50s in England have been double-jabbed, according to official NHS data.
And of the 1,644 deaths of people aged 50 or over, 437 were unvaccinated, 128 had received one dose of vaccine, and 1,054 had received both doses. Boris Johnson appeared to confirm that a rollout would begin this month, saying older people were the priority as autumn and winter approached.
